East Yorkshire’s Hall becomes National Squash Champion
Posted: 17 December, 2024

Max Hall (Ferriby) recently secured victory in the 2024 ProAir British Junior Squash Championship in the Boys Under 9 category, held from October 31 to November 3 in Sheffield.

Cementing his place as a rising star in junior squash, Hall overcame a series of tough opponents to claim the trophy in an intense and dramatic final.

The competition, structured into a group format, culminated in a high-stakes battle between the top two seeds, Max Hall (1) and Keaton Fiander-Derry (2) of Surrey. The final was a tightly contested five-game match that showcased both players' exceptional skills, determination, and mental fortitude with Hall securing victory a 6-11, 11-7, 6-11, 11-4, 11-9 (3-2) win and claiming the prestigious title.

Max’s coach, Beverley’s Zac Toes said ‘I was absolutely delighted for him winning the BJC, as we had selected this event a few months back as the big one to work towards and peak for. In the end the win was well deserved as he showed his technical quality and skill to play the best squash in his event. I’m really proud of the sportsmanship he displayed throughout the event.

‘It has been a pleasure to have coached Max over the last couple of years, his ability has always been clear to see but paired with the hard work and drive he’s shown over the last 6 months have led to big improvements in his game.

‘Since the event, Max has carried on his progression, aiming to go up another level as he now approaches the Boys Under 11 age group. He is showing such exciting potential and I’m confident he’ll have a bright future in the sport. I look forward to continuing working with him and hope his success can inspire other juniors in the area’.

Other notable performances at the event included: Zachary Everington Hunt (Boys U9 - 10th place), Joe Todd (Boys U11 – 13th place), Eleanor Everington Hunt (Girls U13 - 13th place), Hattie Langley (Girls U17 – 12th place), all of which are coached at Beverley Squash Club under the guidance of Zac Toes.

All juniors are also part of the Humber Junior Squash Academy which is a partnership of local squash coaches and clubs who are committed to providing a high quality service for junior squash players across the Humber region. Max is also a regular member of Olcote Squash Academy based at Blackburn’s Squash Club in Brough.
